“Great Personality,” a Dating Sim That Uses Myers-Briggs Personality Types as Characters
Dating sims and Myers-Briggs Personality Types—for a combination that goes together like crackers and Brie, it’s taken way too long to appear. Light Grey Art Lab is aiming to change that with their game Great Personality, the first in their series of dating sims inspired by the MBTI categories. In the game you greet and interact with new characters, all of whom fall in the MBTI Guardian category. The ending reveals the personality type of the character you romanced but, more intriguingly, also reveals the personality type of the character you played as. On my first run-through I learned that my chosen persona (Selena Holmes, intrepid girl detective whose skills were totally useless in a dating sim) was an ESFJ—odd, because I’m an INTP myself.
If you’re a fan of the dating sim genre, Great Personality: Guardians is worth a look because the nature of the premise prevents the trope-y personalities that typically plague the genre. With over fifty artists on the team, Great Personality’s biggest strength is its visual appeal. And hey, it’s a dating sim—sometimes, things can get a little steamy. (Well, PG-13 steamy.)
