Haerts: “Call My Name”

That’s not a typo, that’s a Brooklyn-based indie-pop quartet! After their Hemiplegia EP last October, Haerts is preparing the release of their yet-to-be-titled debut album. “Call My Name,” the first single from the new set, is an addictive ballad with syrupy production and a wonderfully constructed melody. Over an early-90s drum machine beat and warm synth chords, Nini Fabi sings with a sad Stevie Nicks vibe. Her melodies build in tension until the chorus where she practically screams, “I don’t know why you’re not calling my name!” The ethereal arrangement throughout the song captures Fabi’s heartbreak and loneliness. It’s the perfect song for the scene in a teen movie where the girl’s boyfriend leaves her at the school dance. Or maybe just for driving around alone at night and singing along.

Haert’s debut album will be released this year via Columbia Records, so keep an eye out for that!
