Studio Ghibli Gets an 8-bit Makeover

We know the whole 8-bit/retro/pixel trend is becoming a tad, um, overexposed, but we couldn’t help but love these 8-bit renderings of Studio Ghibli movies. Creator Richard J. Evans explained that he created the pixel creations as a way “to celebrate the theatrical release of The Wind Rises, which is said to be the very last animated feature from legendary Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki.” From Castle in the Sky to My Neighbor Totoro, Evans captures all of the usual Ghibli classics, making it the quintessential fan tribute. Browse through the gallery above to see some of our favorites. And we promise—this is the last 8-bit art we will ever post. Honest.
