“Super Life” Is Your Entire Life as a 40-Second Video Game
Thanks to games like The Sims and Animal Crossing, video games have gotten close to simulating the thrills of everyday life. But none of them come as close as Super Life, an arcade game that “lets you experience an entire lifetime in 46 seconds!” But of course, Super Life isn’t a real game. The short video, created by Eben McCue, displayed on an 80-foot tall screen outside the Boston Convention Center during the PAX East convention. But if this were a real game, we can’t say we wouldn’t be the first in line to play it.
On a deeper level, the video cynically makes a point about our “by-the-numbers” approach to life, where falling in (and out) of love and working drab jobs fill up the majority of our rather short lives. But on the plus side, reaching the end is a bit like “winning,” so to speak. After all, there are no do-overs in the game of life.
