Ex-husband and wife duo Amelia Rivas and Christian Pinchbeck (it’s complicated) have been gaining quiet notoriety for a string of singles and EPs they’ve been releasing since 2011 as Elephant. However, “Shapeshifter” might be their strongest track yet. The song is the epitome of bedroom pop euphoria, combining airy vocals and girlish romanticism in a way that makes me equally think of both sex and my grandmother’s doilies. It’s hard to believe such a track was recorded in the middle of a tumultuous break-up. But band drama aside, Elephant is showing they’re a promising new act to watch. And with an upcoming full-length already ready for pre-order, it’s looking like 2014 might be their year. Who says nothing good comes from break-ups?
