“Nimbus Machina,” a Short Animation with a Not-so-Subtle Critique on Pollution

Nimbus Machina is a classic endless-loop style short. The given plot, conceived and animated by Thomas Plaete, is simple: “Onboard a gigantic steam machine, a pilot tries to flee the monstrous storm he created.” The (supposed) resolution of this conflict drives the narrative arc, but a little more profound is the simple realization that the problem is one of the pilot’s own creation. The grayscale color palette, clunking machinery, and belching dark clouds seem to hint at a larger allegorical purpose–pollution, anyone?
