Watch a Live-Generated Digital Dance in “Hakanaï”
In what they call a “haiku dance performance,” French digital and performing arts company Adrien M. / Claire B. showcase a beautiful harmony between dancer and machine in Hakanaï. The excerpts from the piece show graceful human movements synchronized with equally expressive projection mapping, which is made all the more impressive since the piece is a live-generated “digital score” rather than a rehearsed work of choreography. Unsurprisingly, Adrien M. / Claire B. has been exploring similar themes in performance for a decade, hence the polished look of the work. Often we look to science fiction for hints on the eventual convergence of people and technology, but some of the most promising directions are already happening in the world of dance.
