Composer Martin Messier Creates Musical Noise with Film Projectors

Film projectors have been used as tools of visual art for over a century now, so it’s about time someone–namely, Martin Messier–took them into a new frontier: experimental noise. Messier’s piece, cryptically titled PROJECTORSfeatures three of what appear to be standard film projectors that are primarily used to create dissonant blasts of sound, synced to visuals from (hidden) digital projectors on the wall. Messier, a multidisciplinary artist who’s performed around Europe, has more than a few projects under his belt featuring repurposed technology, which is documented on his site.
