An Animated Explanation of How Electroreception in Sharks Work (for Kids!)
When sharks aren’t busy campaigning against their Hollywood portrayals as bloodthirsty killers, they’re probably swimming around, detecting how busy their local waters are via electroreception. Ella McLean created this watercolor animation to explain what the heck that is to kids (which means it can’t be too complicated for us too, right?). The video explains it in a way that makes sharks smelling your electricity somehow sound less frightening than you’d expect. Maybe a 4-year-old narrator is just what all those Discovery Channel epics are missing.
