Up and Coming Author Kent Wascom on the Pitfalls of Historical Fiction
Novelist Kent Wascom has been getting plenty of accolades in the literary world for his debut novel The Blood of Heaven, an epic novel set in the American frontier era. Last year, the 26-year-old writer sat down with Grove Atlantic to discuss his novel and the difficulties of writing historical fiction.
Wascom admits that research is an important part of his writing process because he needs to make sure that what he’s writing is historically accurate. However, he warns that research can often lead to procrastinating on one’s novel and can be a dreadful distraction for authors. Although the interview is short but sweet, Wascom’s answers give a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a new literary voice in fiction.
