Anna of the North: “Sway”

A singer named Anna from Norway; I know what you’re thinking. “It must be Kristen Bell’s character from Frozen.” Well it’s not, but newcomer Anna of the North is pretty great anyway. Newly signed to Brooklyn label Honeymoon., Anna has released her first proper single, “Sway.” The song is a dreamy bit of synth pop that showcases her feathery, charismatic vocals. But most interesting is the drum track, which sputters in an unusual rhythm throughout, never fully locking into an easy groove. It creates a strange and intoxicating feeling and conflicts with her pleas to dance (“Sway/Just move with me darlin’”).

“Sway” will be available for purchase on June 24th, but you can keep streaming it now along with Anna of the North’s cover of the classic Donna Lewis track, “I Love You Always Forever.”
