“Percussive Maintenance,” a Pop Culture Homage to Faulty Equipment (and Whacking)

Kicking some gizmo when it doesn’t work–if you ask me, it’s more American than apple pie. So I was happy to see it celebrated in Percussive Maintenance, a surprisingly touching (blame the music) supercut from brothers Duncan and Joel Robson of television and movie characters giving malfunctioning equipment a solid whack to get it going again, usually successfully. Beyond just lining up a bunch of similar-themed clips from a collection of shows, the whams and thuds are rhythmically synced to the accompanying score. (Full disclosure: I’m writing this from a laptop with a partially-incapacitated screen, which I’ve whacked untold times to no avail.)
