Lupa J: “Statues”

Sydney-based singer/producer/violinist Lupa J is back with a new track after she impressed us with her last single, “Eyes Unclouded,” at the beginning of the year. Like her previous song, “Statues” opens up with pizzicato violin before opening up into a dark electronic pop song. Lupa’s ethereal vocals float on top of the bed of sound created by layers of violins and synths to create an interesting and unique sound. Despite her classical training and the prevalence of her violin, Lupa’s music never feels like a corny pseudo-classical pop gimmick a la Lindsey Sterling or Apocalyptica. Instead, the timbre fits naturally into her already interesting music. If you haven’t already been hooked by her, “Statues” will definitely make you a Lupa fan.

For a limited time, “Statues” is available as a free download on Soundcloud. But if you miss the window, you can still get the track on iTunes.
