Doomsday Illustrations Inspired by Japanese Woodblock Prints
“I’m greatly inspired by surrealism, juxtapositions and sublime narratives but more specifically wood block prints, Edo period art, cartoons, ideograms, characterization, travel and Asia.” Do we need to say anything more? Andrew Archer, a New Zealand born and currently Melbourne-based illustrator, recently uploaded these new illustrations to his Tumblr. The illustrations show various forms of apocalyptic calamities, like earthquakes, floods, and giant squids (can’t forget the squids). The illustrations were created for the cover and main feature story of California Magazine.
