Phobiology: A Zine About Quirky Phobias

Phobias. We all have them. In fact, this list of phobias–all 150 of them–shows that we’re afraid of plenty much everything. Phobiology, a zine created by South African illustrator Bianca Potgieter, takes a tongue in cheek look at phobias by highlighting their irrational side. The zine features abnormal phobias like tressophobia, the fear of being strangled by long hair, and chopophobia, the fear of having one’s foot chopped off, to make a point about our rampant culture of fear. Although tressophobia and chopophobia are not real phobias, the fact we had to Google them first pretty much proves her point. Plus, Potgieter’s colorful illustrations add a dark, bizarre touch. Thank God we don’t have papyrophobia, the fear of paper.
