“Whole,” a Danish Short Animation About Getting Over Breakups and Finding One’s Power Animal

Lying in bed, depressed over a lost love, Ingeborg feels anything but whole. But when her friend drags her out to party while she’s not even slightly in the mood, she ends up on a spiritual journey reminiscent of (mainstream understandings of) Native American vision quests. Whole works largely on the weight of its polished visual charm–with smooth modeling, bright colors, and a visual environment that’s vibrant and lively, the film’s style carries the viewer’s interest as much or more than the plot. Thank some talented filmmakers out of the National Film School of Denmark for this one. (Note: Look for the closed captioning button in the bottom right.)
