Christina Vantzou: “VHS (Loscil Remix)”
Here’s my pitch for the slept-on music story of 2014: Christina Vantzou establishes herself as undisputed queen of Beautiful-White-Women-Moving-in Slow-Motion-to-Equally Beautiful-Music. Drawing from a collection of remixes from her latest album Nº2, the video for “VHS (Loscil Remix)” is a kind of motion study, featuring one actress performing a series of turns and steps. On Facebook, Vantzou describes the video as “eight minutes, twenty-five seconds of slowness that could make your eyelids heavy.” So if you find yourself bored, maybe you’re forgiven. But “dreamily captivated” is more the reaction I think she compellingly tries to provoke.
