“Breathless,” a Series of Cinemagraphs That Make Suffocation Morbidly Funny
The cinemagraph is a relatively new and simple artistic format: the trend involves GIFs that look more like photographs, in which only a specific part of the image moves. (If you were ever into the brief popularity of Cinemagram, you’ve seen these.) Spanish-born filmmaker Diego Agulló decided cinemagraphs would make an ideal medium for a series of images in which people react, almost cartoonishly, to being choked or otherwise suffocated. The containment of motion to a small part of the scene keeps the (somewhat morbid) humor focused, but it also means the scenes are all framed quite well, leaving you to enjoy your front row seats to murders in progress.
