Attempts at Positivity: New Comics by Illustrator Katie So

Earlier this year we wrote about Vancouver illustrator Katie So‘s hilarious yet darkly cynical zine Destined for Misery. Since then she collaborated with fellow artist Stefan Tosheff to produce Dragon Ball Zine and released a new zine, Attempts at Positivity. Attempts echoes her usual aesthetic for journal-like comics that are equal part poignant and humorous. But unlike her last zine, Attempts shows glimmers of optimism. Despite her cynicism, there’s a hint that she doesn’t take herself as seriously anymore. And even the subhead seems slightly optimistic: “Making the best of the worst when it isn’t even all that bad.” Progress?
