“How They Get There,” an Early Short Film by Director Spike Jonze
Before director Spike Jonze started directing feature length films, he mostly worked on music videos and short films. Produced in 1997, How They Get There is one of his first short films. At only two minutes in length, the video only brushes the surface of what Jonze’s directorial style will later become, but his penchant for quirky humor is there, as well as his fondness for doomed, lovelorn protagonists.
In How They Get There, we follow the unusual tale of one man, his shoe, and the unfortunate series of events that follow him. As for Jonze’s other short films, he recently collaborated with Girls‘ Lena Dunham for the choose-your-own-adventure short Choose You.
