Caffeine: A Not-So-Subtle Critique on Modern Society
While I’ve got the “Mondays in Capitalist America” theme going on, here’s another music video that’s more subtly subversive compared to the abrasive Dr. Hackensack video I posted earlier. Brandt Brauer Frick is a German group that mostly traffics in a carefully crafted brand of electronic music that’s based almost entirely on analog samples or instrumentation (so their ensemble is fascinating to watch). “Caffeine” is a fairly representative cut from their debut album You Make Me Real with a well-executed video, conceived by Patricia Luna. Not only do the images closely match the mood of the sounds, but the tension of the video heightens exactly when the song does. Something of an animated classic.
