Lucius: “Hey, Doreen”

After last year’s Lucius EP, the five-piece indie-pop band from Brooklyn is preparing to release their first full-length album Wildewoman on October 15th through Mom+Pop Records. Our first glimpse at the 11-track album comes in the form of the delightfully sunny “Hey, Doreen”. As usual, the track is led by intertwining vocals from Holly and Jess and backed by an ecstatic, fuzzed out soul groove. The psychedelic touches of reverb and washed out organs give the song a perfect retro feel to compliment the powerful vocals and undeniably catchy hook. On the bridge, the fuzz drops out and gives way to layers of sequenced synthesizers, which is at once totally surprising and totally great. Despite its length of almost five minutes, “Hey, Doreen” is so infectious that it never drags. If anything, I could stand to hear that hook a few more times!

Be sure to keep a look out for Wildewoman when it comes out in October.
