Eduardo Valdivieso’s Chaotic Pop Culture Acrylic Paintings

Stormtroopers are not bad ass. They just aren’t. There’s just something about the big comical looking helmet and their blasto guns that make them look ridiculous. It’s no secret in how stormtroopers are treated in the art world that society thinks they’re a joke. But these pop culture paintings by illustrator Eduardo Valdivieso capture the grittier side of stormtroopers, along with other pop icons like Wolverine and Game of Thrones.

Fan art is a hit-or-miss medium around these parts, but we were delighted when Valdivieso sent us his portfolio of frenetic, colorful paintings that blend the line between fan art and high brow comics art. His work is unrestrained, allowing his work to blossom and let imperfections shine. From his criss-crossing brushstrokes to his blotchy colors, Valdivieso’s world is chaotic, giving all his subjects a dark, gritty look.

If you want a print of your own, he currently has several available in his shop. A bad ass stormtrooper awaits you.
