Chris Hayes, Cord Jefferson Beautifully Satirize U.S. Race Discourse

I used to think that people who claimed that others did “non-artistic” work in an artful manner were just using a metaphor, but one of the issues I’ve come to develop with art as a category is that it can often be used to exclude well-executed creative work in fields that aren’t traditionally considered “the arts”. Enter this recent segment from Chris Hayes’s MSNBC show, where Gawker editor Cord Jefferson is invited as an expert to talk about the epidemic of violence in the white communities of the United States. Watch the pair beautifully reverse the talking points, internal logic and proposed solutions of news discourse that centers around “black-on-black crime”.
