Leave the Nest and Explore the World in “Bird Song”
Bird Song is a quick, free platformer about a raven determined to build nests, no matter what it costs. As with all platformers, things don’t go so smoothly for our feathered hero, who is additionally tasked with gathering seven gems scattered across the world. What happens when all seven gems are together? Well, says the game.
Interestingly, the entire world is squeezed onto one screen, viewable at a glance. But that doesn’t mean Birdsong has a small world–the camera zeroes in and magnifies wherever the raven is, showing the surrounding area. It’s a unique visual mechanic that I haven’t gotten tired of yet, elevating an otherwise standard-issue platformer game into something memorable.
In terms of gameplay, collect sticks to build nests. Once complete, the nests serve as checkpoints that allow you to respawn. Build the nests as often as you can; you’re going to need all the help you can get.
