Jazzy Reinventions of Music From Phoenix Wright
I just started on Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, a mash-up game that merges the worlds of the Professor Layton puzzle games and the Phoenix Wright courtroom games. Both series are cult favorites, with Phoenix Wright edging slightly ahead Professor Layton in popularity. For those who don’t know, the series follows Phoenix, a bumbling defense attorney, as he investigates and presents cases to the court. Realism is replaced with outlandish storylines that zig-zag all over the place, with the climax culminating appropriately in the courtroom. The series is so popular it has spawned numerous soundtracks, several musicals, and a live-action film. However, my favorite contribution to the Phoenix Wright franchise machine is this awesome jazz soundtrack, Gyakuten Meets Jazz Soul (or Turnabout Jazz Soul).
The soundtrack features jazzy reincarnations of music from the series, like “Objection!,” a song that plays whenever Phoenix makes a “break” in his case. However, the whole soundtrack is full of nice, lounge-y music that’s enjoyable even if you’ve never heard of Phoenix Wright. If you like this, I also recommend checking out Gyakuten Meets Orchestra, a (you guessed it) orchestral version of the soundtrack.
