Canon Blue: “Bows & Arrows”

This song and video isn’t new. Canon Blue, the orchestral pop project of singer/songwriter Daniel James released the album Rumspringa, and this accompanying music video, in late 2011. But if you haven’t heard it now’s a good time, because it is currently being offered as a free download on Noise Trade. “Bows & Arrows,” like most of the rest of the album, is a perfect blend of indie songwriting, modern classical composition, and is equal parts Sufjan Stevens and John Adams. James’ voice also recalls the other mastermind leader of a big orchestral pop band, Tim DeLaughter of Polyphonic Spree. The video, essentially a performance-art/dance piece, features James and others covered in white and black paint and arrows in an abstract drama.

Make sure you make your way over to Noise Trade and check out the full-length album, which still sounds fresh and exciting two years after its release.
