iDreamBooks Wants to Help You Read Less Crappy Books

There’s a lot of book “recommendation” sites out there, some we’ve already wrote about, but iDreamBooks is a tad different from places like GoodReads that try to recommend you books based on how you rate books. Instead, iDreamBooks is more like RottenTomatoes. They compile all the ratings from published reviews and then grade the book based on those reviews. If a book falls below 70%, iDreamBooks will bluntly inform you to “don’t read” the book. The only downside is that the ratings seem a bit too harsh. We plugged in several titles (some good, some bad) to test the algorithm. Books that we loved had excellent scores, while books that we thought were just good/OK got abysmal scores. There seems to be little wiggle room–either a book is extremely good or extremely bad. But regardless, we love iDreamBooks’ clean interface, user-friendly design and mission in helping people avoid wasting time with crap books. Give them a try.
