Seye: “Mexicana Bounce”
This isn’t a new song or video, but I woke up with it stuck in my head, and I suddenly remembered how important it was that everyone hears it. The video for “Mexicana Bounce” was released a little over a year ago, but with only about 25,000 views, it’s clear to me that not enough of you have experienced this joyous song and video from the British singer/songwriter (and brother of the dude from Metronomy). The song is lead by a syncopated guitar line that slinks around through different keys, backed by a pounding percussion track. With its angular melody coupled against the jarring chord progression outlined by the guitar, the verses build with tension until the chord breaks and everything comes together. I’d be surprised if you weren’t dancing and singing along with Seye (pronounced Shey-ah) by the end of the song. The vibrant colors and roof party antics, not to mention Seye’s infectious smile, make the video as fun to watch as the song is to listen to.
No real word on what Seye’s up to right now but you can sign up to get his mixtape for free here.
