The Philosophy of Hayao Miyazaki

When art student Ashley “sapphiresky1410” was asked to draw a five-page comic about a famous figure for a visual narratives class, she chose animator Hayao Miyzaki. And instead of doing a standard biography about his life, she chose to focus on the philosophy that reflects his films, in particular his stance on “good versus evil.” Although none of the quotes in the comic were actually said by Miyazaki, the comic does a splendid job at addressing some of the common themes in his movies while at the same time praising him for his work. The entire comic was drawn in ink and is the perfect tribute to Miyazaki’s career and legacy as an important figure in animation.
