Right in time for Halloween, New York synth-pop duo Radial just released a cover of the classic Ray Parker Jr. Ghostbusters song. Musically, the cover sticks pretty close to the original, but the sound is updated from real ’80s synth-pop to 2013 ’80s synth-pop. The drums are punchier, the synths are buzzier, and the rhythms are a bit tighter. The duo, made up of cousins Mark and Joe Endozo, approach the track with enthusiasm and precision, being careful not to strip away the fun and silliness from the song. Their sound, which has grown over the band’s three EPs, is most similar to fellow NY retro synth-poppers Holy Ghost!, but their songwriting tends to be more detailed and harmonically interesting.
