Watch This Stunning, Animated Tribute to Scientist Ernst Haeckel in “Life Forms”
Many of us spend hours of our childhood forced to look at various plants, animals, and bacteria of interest under a microscope until we can convince the teacher that we know how and why to tell them apart. But you can thank the incredibly prolific German scientist Ernst Haeckel for some of these classifications, and is work as a scientist and artist is the subject of Life Forms. Created by Antoine Presles, the vibrations and twitchiness of these imagined miniature organisms are rendered tense and a little unnerving (thanks to the music selection, Yom and Wang Li‘s “Rings”). The video is a throwback to the imagery of free-floating miniature creatures that have captured so much of our attention in recent history.
