Write Without Distractions with OmmWriter
This month is National Novel Writing Month, an annual event that challenges writers worldwide to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. This is my sixth year participating and it has not been easy. With so many things going on in my life right now, it’s easy to procrastinate on Nano. And as I fall further and further behind on my word count, the idea of sitting down and pounding out 10,000 words is too daunting. Mind as well watch another episode of American Horror Story, right?
Fortunately, I stumbled across OmmWriter recently. The software is a minimal distraction-free word processor that’s designed to nip procrastination in the bud. When the program is open, it fills the entire screen (so that you’re not distracted by tantalizing Tumblr and Gmail tabs). You can then choose a background color, music, and a keystroke sound. I prefer to type with a white background, and I usually switch the music off (I have my own music thankyouverymuch). However, the keystroke sound is probably my favorite feature because it makes me feel like I’m typing on an old fashion typewriter. But whatever your preferences are, OmmWriter helps tune out distractions so that the only thing you have to focus on is your writing.
You can download Dana I for both Windows and Mac for free. However, you’ll have to pay for their newest version, Dana II. Dana II has more backgrounds, music and keystroke sounds to select from, making it a decent upgrade from the original.
