How New Yorkers Get Their Sink Water
If you have used a faucet or shower in a New York City building, then the subject of this documentary is probably the technology you have to thank. In Water From Above, tankmakers, artists, pedestrians, and others all speak out on just what they know—or often, don’t know—about what those strange cone barrels on top of those buildings are for. I was surprised to learn that the tanks are made out of wood and last several decades on average, as well as just how widely they’re used. The feature was created by Gala Lutteroth, a filmmaker from Mexico City, for the “slow journalism”-focused website Narratively. If you’re one of those people who likes to tell their friends to look up when they’re walking around, here’s a good reason to keep it up.
