Artist Spotlight: Denitia and Sene
A few weeks ago when everyone was writing up their “best of” lists (including us), when it came to the best new acts of 2013 there was one band that consistently came up. Not only did URB nominate them for Artist of the Year, but Boomkat also called their debut “a result that will rank with debuts for years to come.” And with one of their tracks, “Casanova,” getting airplay on the popular MTV reality show Catfish, it looks like the rest of the world is catching on to them too.
Denitia and Sene are two Brooklyn natives who make silky cool indie r&b that straddles the line between eclectic pop and soulful experimentation. Denitia’s sultry vocals are reminiscent of Martina Topley-Bird during her Tricky days, and Sene’s sleek production is elevatory, creating a soulful bed of music that rivals its musical peers. Their debut album his and hers. was released in March 2013 and is currently streaming on Soundcloud. The band also recently announced on their Tumblr that they’re shooting a video with director Joel Kefali–in 3D!
