Meet the Candi-Dates: A Photo Series That Captures People’s Obsession with Candy Crush
During your daily commute you’ve probably encountered one. You know the type: slouched back, glazed eyes, a smartphone angled carefully in front of them. They’re Candy Crush addicts, and they’re multiplying. Photographer Zinkie Aw noticed the rising popularity of the mobile game in her city and took it upon herself to document the phenomenon. Her series Meet the Candi-dates playfully pokes fun at Candy Crush addicts by photographing them from behind as they busily play their favorite game. “The game feels like a big National Pastime to me,” she said. “Everywhere I go, I see people with those candy screens. I wanted to capture these snippets, talk to these people from all ages, understand their craze with the crushing, and show bits and pieces of my country, Singapore.” You can view the full series here, as well as read a short essay by Aw about the experience.
