Magnetic Ghosts: “Through The Storm”

Long Island-based quartet Magnetic Ghosts showed their knack for writing hook-driven lo-fi rock songs on their recent EP. But their newest track “Through The Storm” takes the group to a new level. At just about two minutes, the song is compact and tightly composed. It opens with picked bass and blossoms out with layers of guitars. The two-part harmony vocals throughout give the song a power-pop tinge, reminiscent of Fastball or Fountains of Wayne, while the vintage melodies and “sha-la-la”s recall classic ’60s pop. It’s a simple song about being content with living in the moment and making do with what you’ve got, even if it’s not what you want. With a cleaner production style and stronger hooks, “Through The Storm” points to promising things for Magnetic Ghosts.
