Video Game Art Archive: A Tumblr That Showcases Art Found in Old Games
While there has been a lot of debate recently about whether video games count as an artistic medium, many probably don’t think about the art within video games. You know, like that pixelated portrait hanging on the wall in Final Fantasy 8, or the pop art Marilyn Monroe pieces that decorate the walls of Leisure Suit Larry.
Video Game Art Archive is an entire Tumblr devoted to these rare, forgotten pieces of “art.” While on the surface the blog looks like another one of those ridiculously specific “quirk” Tumblrs designed just for viral appeal (and for possible future book deals), the blog possesses a genuine sense of intrigue. When game developers design the background art of games, they’re probably not expecting the minor details to be scrutinized so closely. And it’s always fascinating when a magnifying glass is pointed at something that most people ignore. We could honestly ramble on and on about this, but you should probably just check out the full gallery for yourself.
