Electronic musician Helfer recently signed to Israeli label BLDG5 Records to release his upcoming Air Drops EP. And to whet our appetite, they’ve released the first single, “Designs.” The song is crafted out of layers of cut-and-paste samples, glitchy synths, and layers of Helfer’s own idiosyncratic vocals. The soundscape slowly builds in waves, swirling around over a dance beat, and then fades away the same way it came in. With a pop-RnB sensibility running through the vocals, “Designs” shows how versatile Helfer can be. Though he sings about “how far” he’s gone, the track has a static, hypnotic quality that pulls you into its bubbling textures.
Air Drops drops (sorry, I had to) on March 3rd via BLDG5 Records.
