Zella Day: “Sweet Ophelia”

Arizona-born, L.A.-based singer Zella Day is ready to have a big year. Newly signed to B3SCI Records, the young singer has just put out her debut single, an eclectic and promising indie-pop track. The song opens up with evocative synth chords and an unusual crunching drum sound. Zella Day’s falling melody drips through the verse before opening up to an anthemic chorus reminiscent of Lana Del Rey. The interesting arrangement includes layers of synths, thumb pianos, and strings, but the real focus is Day’s haunting voice. Her sound is light and airy but confident and self-assured. “Sweet Ophelia” is one of those pop songs that’s a little odd, but might be great enough to become a massive hit anyway.

“Sweet Ophelia” will be released as a 7″ vinyl single on April 7th. You can pre-order it here.
